Products like Apple Newton and Nintendo Power Glove come to mind when thinking about technology ahead of time.
Despite its innovative nature and cutting-edge characteristics, most are remembered as an instant failure for one reason or another. We will not focus on these today.
This article will focus on products, services and ideas of tomorrow that are not needed right out the door.
Some of them are quite popular and still exist today, while others are more obscure. But they all have philosophies that help shape today’s technological landscape.
AOL Instant Messenger (AIM)
Prior to mobile devices and social networks, online chat applications were a means of communication for millions of computer users. Their flagship is AIM, a peer-to-peer chat program that originally came into the AOL Internet lineup in the late 90s.
Later, the app was released as a standalone download and competed for supremacy with other popular chat apps such as Yahoo-Messenger, ICQ and MSN Messenger.
It has been popular over the past decade – an eternal time for technology – but AOL’s inability to gain traction from the mobile version eventually led to its death.
AIM has been discontinued on 15 December, although its impact can be seen in many of today’s major chat apps such as WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger and Snapchat.
Digg (news aggregator)
Reddit, one of the most popular internet destinations for millennia, is the result of the success of the social news site that surfaced in late 2004 as an experiment to make it accessible before Digg. To discover and share content on the web
Manufacturers support the service with new and innovative features over the next several years and are rewarded with a solid fan base that generates massive website traffic. The concept is similar to Slashdot, although it will suit all types of content, not just technical stories.
However, Dig is not quite right, as some members are considered to be playing a game of voting system for political and financial gain.
The site still has to contend with the issue of censorship. But the camel-ruined straw returned in August 2010 with the release of Digg v4, a bug and a flawed overhaul, which removed some of the site’s most-loved features.
Several days later, disgruntled users staged the “Quiet Dig Day” scene, which resulted in many users abusing Reddit. Digg managed to escape the mass exodus. But, eventually, it was sold for a fraction of its original price and was no longer the same as its former self.
Motorola Atrix 4G Smartphone
Motorola came to CES 2011 with its Atrix 4G smartphones, which included a dual-core CPU, which according to Motorola is quite powerful, allowing you to use a mobile phone. It is a full-featured desktop computer.
The Atrix 4G is sold with a mobile dock, desktop or laptop of your choice. The idea is simple – plug your phone into the dock and use a dual-core processor and 1GB of RAM as a standalone computer mind.
This is a new concept, but Motorola is too fast to bring it to market with the 2011 dual-core SoC, not powerful enough to drive this experience, and Motorola has added many accessories ($ 499 for laptop stand) Have asked for That sucks without a phone).
Android is still in its infancy – a mobile phone that ships with Android 2.2 – as with the smartphone industry as a whole, Motorola was not committed to doing so, especially after the company sold. Google a few months later.
In defending Motorola, many others have made similar efforts over the years. But it was no use (Samsung Dex and Microsoft Continuum immediately came to mind). I included it here today because I believe this idea is still the foot.
This may take a few years. But with the rapidly increasing use of mobile devices, potential current and future performance, and the use of mainstream PCs in various ways, we can finally see a combination of the two platforms.
Sega Sports Gear Handheld Console
The North American video game industry was dominated by the same name in the late 1980s and early 90s: Nintendo, while the company’s NES and SNES consoles were domestic favorites. But this is a game boy who is tasked with the portable part
However, mobile devices were not disputed. But somehow, rival Sega released their technically superior game gear less than two years after Game Boy’s arrival.
Code-named Project Mercury, this 8-bit handheld landscape layout features a full-color backlit display and a design that is more comfortable for long-term grip.
It is also a reasonable $ 149.99, though it is still more expensive than the $ 89.95 Game Boy price.
