Considering last month’s CPU-centric exam results, we’ll look back at the player-familiar Battleground. How well it performs on many graphics cards.
By now, we know that the game heavily supports Intel hardware in terms of CPU performance and only needs 4 cores if overclocked to more than 4 GHz.
However, six- and eight-core Ryzen CPUs give respectable results, even if PUBG does not take advantage.
In the final round of testing, we had a big fight between the Radeon and the GeForce graphics card.
Before going any further, we should note that PUBG is an Nvidia compatible game and the Green Team has a lot of hardware support in the game during its pre-launch access.
For whatever reason, AMD often becomes a popular end when it comes to extremely popular games – in fact, the reason is money, and Nvidia has more to throw at developers.
Seeing how successful PUBG was in the early days, Nvidia climbed in and we soon started seeing the GeForce logo appear on the game’s loading screen.
Of course, AMD has adapted the drivers for the game, and we’ve seen several releases mentioning performance over the past few months. But you can be sure that Nvidia pays to win the game.
In the performance test of the GPU in PUBG we would run a 60 second benchmark pass test on the same map as before (“Miramar”) and we would report it with an average frame rate of 1% less than three runs.
Most tests will be done using premium quality presets, although we know that serious players will use lower quality settings and touch them before we complete this article.
The latest AMD and Nvidia display drivers available during testing were used, and all video cards were tested on our standard GPU test rig. Inside, we had a Core i7-8700K with DDR4 memory overclocked at 5GHz-. 3200 size 32GB
This is all important, so without wasting too much time, let’s go over the results because there are so many tankers.
Kick out things, we have real remains. Can you believe that some of these models are three years old? Even at 1080p, you’ll still need some serious GPU firepower if you want to play PUBG using ultra quality settings.
For an average of around 60fps, gamers will need the previous generation R9 Fury or GTX 980 graphics card.
Some notable comments here include the fact that the GTX 980 Ti shatters the Fury X when viewed at an average frame rate. But numbers that are less than 1% are almost the same.
The GTX 970 and R9 390X provide nearly the same performance, while the R9 380 beats the GTX 960 by a comfortable 16% margin.
From the current lineup, gamers around 60fps will require a GTX 1060 6GB or perhaps a Radeon RX 580.
Then we would see a big jump of 32% or more with the GTX 1070 and Vega 56 GPU looking at the average frame rate.
However, we record another small improvement in the results as 1%, and in fact the 1070 is just 11% faster than the 1060 here.
